Description of the Family
- Beaks near anterior end
- Surface lacks radial ornamentation
- One or two posterior lateral teeth in each valve (or lacking)
- Anterior adductor with strong posterior myophoric ridge
- One or two cardinals in each valve

- Beaks near anterior end; surface without radial ornamentation; isomyarian; one or two posterior lateral teeth in each valve, or lacking; anterior laterals lacking or short; one or two cardinals in each valve; anterior adductor with strong posterior myophoric ridge. (Some genera of this family resemble certain Modiomorphidae and Carditidae.)
